East New York showed up Saturday. Hundreds of adults and teenagers lined Pitkin Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue as the Juneteenth NYC 2026 parade stepped off at 9:30 AM from Gotham Health at 2950 Pitkin Avenue, moving through the heart of the neighborhood in a celebration of 161 years of freedom.
The Parade
A pickup truck led the procession, fitted with large speakers, a DJ, and an MC working the crowd from the truck bed. The music was high-energy soca. It set the tone early.
Gotham Health East New York's banner led the parade marchers. Organizations from across the community followed with their own banners down Pennsylvania Avenue, drawing bystanders out onto sidewalks and fire escapes. People danced as the procession passed. Several stopped to take photos and video from above.
The NYPD managed traffic and crowd flow across the route without incident.
The parade traveled approximately 1.5 miles. It turned left on Stanley Avenue and arrived at Gershwin Park, where the festival was already taking shape.
The Festival
Vendors filled the exterior and interior of Gershwin Park. Food, drinks, and community resource tables lined the grounds. A professional stage with a full PA system anchored the center of the park.
The festival opened with the Black National Anthem, "Lift Every Voice and Sing," followed by a welcome address from event organizer Athenia Rodney. DJ Fame opened the performance set.
Young performers took the stage throughout the afternoon. A fashion show drew a strong crowd. The energy held from the parade right through the evening.
The festival ran from 10 AM to 6 PM.
About the Event
Juneteenth NYC is an annual community celebration organized around the mission to Educate, Empower, and Entertain. The 2026 event was anchored in East New York, a neighborhood whose residents are disproportionately Black and among the families the Juneteenth holiday most directly speaks to.
This year's theme: 161 Years of Freedom.
