Family, friends, elected officials and neighbors gathered under tents on the grass outside Essex Terrace, the Mitchell-Lama development where Virginia Burroughs lived for 53 years and served as tenants association president for approximately 50 of them.
Council Deputy Leader Chris Banks pulled the cover from the sign together with members of the Burroughs family. The co-naming was enacted through Int. No. 1501-2025, which became Local Law 48 of 2026 and co-named 77 thoroughfares and public places across the five boroughs.
